Dance Mogul Magazine is the first Melanated-owned dance publication in print and digital, founded in 2010 to inspire self-empowerment through the stories of dancers who beat the odds. From hip-hop and street dance culture to ballet, contemporary, and urban dance, we give dancers a voice, honor their contributions, and document the culture.<\/p>\n

Basil Harris \u2014 CEO & Co-Founder<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dance Mogul Magazine was born from a father-and-son journey through the streets of Newark, NJ. Basil Harris, CEO and Co-Founder, has been an active participant in street dance culture for over 45 years. Growing up in Newark, he was inspired by older dancers who performed in the community \u2014 and in 1979, he found his own voice through movement.<\/p>\n

The early days of Dance Mogul Magazine<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When his son Anthony was labeled an at-risk youth, Basil turned to the arts as a bridge. What began as a tool for communication became a life-changing bond. Father and son traveled the country, speaking with dancers from every walk of life \u2014 from contemporary stages to street corners \u2014 and heard the same message everywhere: dancers needed more press, more opportunities, and more respect.<\/p>\n

That unanimous voice from the dance community became the foundation of Dance Mogul Magazine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Awards<\/p>\n

Recognizing that dancers are rarely honored for their cultural contributions, Dance Mogul Magazine created two awards to change that.<\/p>\n

Lifetime Achievement\u00a0<\/strong>Award:<\/strong> honors<\/span> individuals who have dedicated more than 50 percent of their lives to uplifting others through the arts and community service.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
