Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210 for a once in a lifetime concert that is not to be missed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s star-studded gala entitled\u00a0<strong><em>Impressions: A Magical Night of Dance<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0will feature performances by the DADA Ensemble, the Academy\u2019s most advanced students and The Redbirds, the Academy\u2019s troupe of gifted, younger performers. The gala, while leaving a major footprint in the concert world, will raise funds to continue the mission of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, which expands its reach to youth in communities where arts education is limited or non-existent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The evening\u2019s special guest performer\u00a0<strong>Misty Copeland<\/strong>\u00a0is a highly acclaimed ballerina for the American Ballet Theatre who made history by becoming the second African American female soloist in the company\u2019s history \u2013 the first in two decades.\u00a0 She took her first ballet class at age 13 and by 15, was named as the Best Young Dancer in Greater Los Angeles by the\u00a0<em>L.A. Times<\/em>. Copeland has also appeared as a guest judge on the FOX series\u00a0<em>So You Think You Can Dance<\/em>\u00a0(Season 11). Misty is the author of the\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>\u00a0bestselling memoir<em>, Life in Motion<\/em>, co-written with Charisse Jones, which was published March 2014. Her newly released picture book,\u00a0<em>Firebird\u00a0<\/em>(in collaboration with Christopher Myers)is the story of a young ballerina with fragile confidence and big dreams.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dance legend<strong>\u00a0Carmen De Lavallade<\/strong>\u00a0is an iconic artist whose career spans over seven decades of dance, film and theater.\u00a0 She has performed with legends such as Alvin Ailey, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Harry Belafonte, Martha Graham and Ezra Belafonte. De Lavallade recently premiered\u00a0<em>As I Remember It<\/em>, a memoir about her life on stage, in a performance intertwining movement and storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>\u00a0hailed\u00a0<strong>Desmond Richardson<\/strong>, with his technical virtuosity and statuesque expressive demeanor<strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0as among the great dancers of his time. Richardson is the co-founder and co-artistic director of the New York-based award winning contemporary ballet company\u00a0<em>Complexions.\u00a0<\/em>The former principal dancer for the\u00a0<em>Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater<\/em>\u00a0also performed as the lead in the\u00a0<em>American Ballet Theatre<\/em>\u00a0production,\u00a0<em>Othello\u00a0<\/em>an<wbr \/>d danced in the premier cast of the Broadway musical,\u00a0<em>Fosse<\/em>\u00a0for which he earned a Tony Award nomination.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Versatile performer\u00a0<strong>Vivian Nixon<\/strong>\u00a0has been described as a chameleon and virtuosic classical dancer by Sergio Trujillo, choreographer of the Broadway musical\u00a0<em>Memphis<\/em>, in which Nixon starred.\u00a0 She made her Broadway debut as the lead in Maurice Hines\u2019 musical\u00a0<em>Hot Feet<\/em>, an adaption of\u00a0<em>The Red Shoes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jason Samuel Smith<\/strong>\u00a0is a world-renowned tap dance performer, choreographer and director, and the heir apparent to the incomparable Gregory Hines\u2019 legacy. He won both an Emmy and American Choreography Award for Outstanding Choreography of the opening number of the Jerry Lewis Telethon in a tribute to Gregory Hines. Smith is also the founder of the tap dance crew, \u201cThe Wolf Pack,\u201d as well as the director of the Los Angeles Tap Festival.\u00a0 He is often called, \u201cThe Prince of Tap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will present an eclectic fusion of many dance styles, including ballet, modern, tap, salsa and hip-hop, sure to please the most serious dance fans, and novices too.\u00a0 This night will truly offer something for everyone,\u201d says DADA co-founder Debbie Allen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event will celebrate philanthropist Wallis Annenberg, who serves as President and Chairman of the Board of the Annenberg Foundation.
