Dance Mogul:<\/strong> What can the audience expect during your anniversary year?
\nAmanda Selwyn:<\/strong> For my 15th Anniversary year, audiences can expect to see a true celebration of the signature elements and structures in my choreographic work including gesture, partnering, virtuosic artistry juxtaposed with pedestrian movement, humor, character, and theatricality. \u00a0Renewal<\/em>\u00a0promises to be an evening of immediate dance theatre with a fresh and vibrant movement language that will continue to renew itself again and again — each new short section shifting the experience of the present moment and mapping out a journey of discovery and transcendence.
\nDance Mogul:<\/strong> It’s difficult for entertainers to re-invent themselves constantly. How were you able to capture the essence of doing that and translate that\u00a0through dance?
\nAmanda Selwyn:<\/strong> As artists and as humans, we are always evolving and changing — change is truly the only constant. \u00a0My aim is to keep showing up to the process, giving over to each new creative interplay with my dancers and designers and allow the work to continue to evolve and blossom. \u00a0Each day in the studio, there are new discoveries, new details and flourishes to be added, timing to be mastered, and new ways to collaborate with designers in every stage of the development process to create a fully realized dance theatre experience for our audiences.

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre <\/span>announces its Fifteenth Anniversary Performance Season, the World Premiere of <\/span>Renewal,<\/span> from March 13-15, 2015<\/span><\/span> as part of the Tribeca Dance Series at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, at 199 Chambers St, NYC. Performances are Friday, March 13 at 7:30 pm<\/span><\/span>, Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 pm<\/span><\/span> and Sunday, March 15 at 3 pm<\/span><\/span>. Renewal<\/span> is an evening-length work that unpacks the state of being made new, fresh, or strong again – dramatizing how we re-invent ourselves again and again over time.\u00a0 Renewal will be composed of a series of shorts that shift the physical and visceral present movement, re-starting, reclaiming, and revitalizing our experience of it.\u00a0 Each short will highlight signature structures and elements in Selwyn’s style including gesture, partnering, virtuosic artistry juxtaposed with pedestrian movement, humor, character, and theatricality.\u00a0 With Selwyn’s fresh and vibrant movement language of extended limbs, physical risk, athleticism, energy, release, touch, and balance, she will activate emotional expression and offer many in-roads for audiences to make meaning for themselves.<\/span><\/div>\n

Founded in 2000, Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre has presented over 30 productions at NYC venues including New York Live Arts, Dance Theatre Workshop, Dance New Amsterdam, Danspace Project, Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Kumble Theater, and John Jay College.\u00a0\u00a0We have been presented twice at Jacob’s Pillow, Westfest, DUMBO Dance Festival, Dixon Place, Dance Teacher Summit, COOL NY, Movement Research, and Pushing Progress Series. We have toured to festivals, presented open rehearsals, interactive performance events, and workshops, and offer arts-in-education programming through Notes in Motion Outreach Dance Theatre to children in the NYC public schools.<\/span><\/div>\n
