visual artist Brian Michael Reed, \u201cA Matter of Heart\u201d is a performance-based installation that combines elements of nature, art, dance, and music.\u00a0 In January 2015 Reed commissioned ZEST COLLECTIVE Contemporary Performance Art&#8217;s Artistic Director Gentry Isaiah George to create an enhanced and redesigned exhibition performance to showcase the work\u2019s continued growth and development as a collaborative art experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<em>The work will premiere on <span data-term=\"goog_965546660\">February 21, 2015<\/span> at The Alchemical, located at:\u00a0 104 West 14<sup>th<\/sup> Street, New York, NY 10011,\u00a0<\/em>2<sup>nd<\/sup> Floor \u201cThe Lab\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a or emotions?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Artistic Director Gentry:<\/strong><\/em> I am inspired by opportunities that allow me to share and grow.\u00a0 Currently I am engaged in expanding contemporary dance vocabulary and developing my company&#8217;s unique aesthetic and dynamic sensibilities.\u00a0I was initially drawn in by Reed&#8217;s use of color, myth, and metaphor.\u00a0 I am mostly moved by metaphor and the subtle transformative power that each work of art as the potential to remark upon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dance Mogul: How do you bring your team into your energy to communicate your purpose?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Artistic Director Gentry:<\/strong> <\/em>I look for talented individuals who have something to say.\u00a0 I look for unique sensibilities.\u00a0 ZEST\u2019s environment is positive and about researching alternative means of creative expression.\u00a0I like to create warm and safe environments whereby my dancers and I can create beautiful works of Art.\u00a0 As an artistic facilitator I am interested in what the dancer has to say and how we can combine our artistic voices to convey an idea or impression.<\/p>\n<p><a (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Dance Mogul: Your project in is titled &#8220;A Matter Of Heart,&#8221; do you feel a sense of cultural responsibility with all your work or do you just see it as art?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Artistic Director Gentry:<\/strong><\/em> I am always looking for innovative ways to share with my Dance Artists and audience members the historical identities of some of the world\u2019s most influential artists whilst also creating an abstracted narrative of inspired ideas.\u00a0 The aim of this collaborative exploration is the enlargement of the universe of human discourse.\u00a0For a people bombarded with negative propaganda and depressing media outtakes I find that it is my responsibility to create work of mythic proportions, to encourage others to not only dream but celebrate what it means to be human.\u00a0As a technological advancing society, Reed&#8217;s work continues to use elements of nature. I believe our collaborative work encourages the continued spiritual and physical embrace of man and the earth from which we have sprung.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dance Mogul: How do you physically and mentally prepare for your final presentation?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Artistic Director Gentry:<\/strong><\/em> Most of my work is done in dreaming.\u00a0 I spend a lot of time looking over video footage, taking notes and doing extensive research into the topics I am studying.\u00a0 I\u2019ve researched a great deal about aboriginal cultures and their folklore for this coming production.\u00a0 I rehearse with the dancers to develop steps and movement sequences that are lyrical and sometimes quixotic and I trust they will develop the material accordingly.\u00a0 I work with the most talented artists in New York City and am always thrilled by my dancers\u2019 creative interpretations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dancemogul.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/gentry.Still022.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7752\" src=\"\/\/dancemogul.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/gentry.Still022-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"gentry.Still022\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dancemogul.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/gentry.Still022-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.dancemogul.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/gentry.Still022-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.dancemogul.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/gentry.Still022-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.dancemogul.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/gentry.Still022-900x506.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.dancemogul.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/gentry.Still022-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.dancemogul.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/gentry.Still022.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dance Mogul: How would you like the audience to feel after this performance?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Artistic Director Gentry:<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0It is likely that my dancers are the seen spirits that Brian&#8217;s sculptures reflect.\u00a0 It is also likely that each audience member represents the unseen spirits that his work attracts. \u00a0Reed and I have created a spiritual Forrest that is blissfully inspired by our combined imaginations. \u00a0I want to engage audiences in alternative means of storytelling that is both reflective and enjoyable.\u00a0The work I\u2019m attempting to create is a single poem, expressed through movement literature revealing a dark cry of metaphysical loneliness &#8211;
