Elementz Dance Pop-up Workshop Coverage<\/strong><\/p>\n

Elementz Dance Convention is coming to Atlanta, but only with a push from you! The Elementz claim to fame is their ability to bring \u201ccelebrity industry working choreographers\u201d to teach the masses; such as JaQuel Knight, Dave Scott, Luam, Jerod Fewell, Rhapsody James, Luther Brown…etc. This is a unique opportunity for Atlanta and the Southeast because these top choreographers are usually unavailable to teach outside of LA or NY due to their enormous demand. This collaborative effort will be brought to Atlanta by convention owners, and industry giants themselves, Tom Hill and Chuck Maldonado, and the voting process to choose which elusive choreographers will be joining the line-up has already begun.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tom and Chuck hosted their Elementz Pop-up Workshop in Atlanta this January at Rhythma Studios to survey what kind of turn out Atlanta could produce for industry experts such as themselves and fellow headlining choreographer Dondraico Johnson. I attended the event as a Dance Mogul correspondent and observer to objectively give the DMM readers a glimpse of what an Elementz Dance event is all about. During our interviews, it seemed that being able to feel the amount of hunger, passion and drive present in the ATL dance community would be a driving force behind rather or not they would invest their resources into bringing the full Elementz Dance entre\u0301e to the A. The pop-up was certainly a delicious and filling starter that left me and other attendees hungry for more.<\/p>\n

The four-hour event featured two classes, a \u201cLet\u2019s Talk Agency & Let\u2019s Talk Industry\u201d seminar and an audition that led right into the filming of a concept video. It goes without saying that both Chuck and Draico\u2019s pieces were well \u2013 thought out, easily digestible into the body\u2019s natural flow of movement, and pushed each dancer to learn quicker and go harder. Both of them display an excellence in explaining that motivates excellent execution. Their professional experience has clearly made amazing educators of them. One of the things I enjoyed most about Chuck\u2019s teaching is that his directions highlighted from where in the body movements were initiating. My favorite thing about Draico\u2019s teaching style is how he pinpointed the feeling or the concepts that inspired the movements that he was placing.<\/p>\n

Even though the workshops doubled as auditions, the atmosphere still felt like a space to learn and enjoy movement. The competitive nature that comes with auditioning could not wipe that energy away because of how contagious Chuck and Draico\u2019s enthusiasm and positivity was while they were teaching. Their wisdom and expertise during the seminar were apparent as well.<\/p>\n

The top 20 takeaways that I gathered from their advice on being a professional dancer in the entertainment industry are below:<\/p>\n

  1. Pick up your paycheck from your agency<\/li>\n
  2. Get into dope working choreographers classes<\/li>\n
  3. Ask to be an assistant<\/li>\n
  4. 4. Build organic relationships<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    5. Constantly train to improve upon your talent<\/p>\n

    6. Grind! Grind! Grind!<\/p>\n

    7. Sign with an agency: Submit for agencies via website as a walk-in turnaudition call or ask a teacher of choreographer for a recommendation.<\/p>\n

    8. Get professional pictures taken<\/p>\n

    9. Invest in yourself first before expecting others to see your value<\/p>\n

    10. Constantly self-evaluate\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    11. Network More: It\u2019s often about who you know<\/p>\n

    12 Figure out if there\u2019s a block that is keeping you from booking gigs and thenfix it<\/p>\n

    13. Be a chameleon: Go into the audition looking like the part you want to bebuilt for. To do this you have to research and know the difference between the looks of a dancer on tour, a commercial dancer, a movie and TV dancer, and a convention dancer<\/p>\n

    14. Make sure your body is right: work out, eat right, be a machine<\/p>\n

    15. Relationships are key don\u2019t taint relationships by being insincere, build them<\/p>\n

    16. Your attitude is your altitude are you a breath fresh air<\/p>\n

    17. Remember auditions are an INSTANT interview by physical motion<\/p>\n

    18. Always try to steal the show at auditions<\/p>\n

    19. Location is key: if there are no dance jazz are you are moved to where thedance jobs are<\/p>\n

    20. Reach back and help as many people as you can<\/p>\n
