Dance Mogul Magazine Exclusive…

Dance Mogul: How did you guys form Femme Fatale?
Femme Fatale: In 2016 Marie was asked to perform one of her choreography pieces in Sweden so she asked Lily and Dassy to be part of it. At this same event in Sweden, they had a choreography contest called Dance Delight so we all decided to prepare for this as well. We won first place in the competition and from this event, we started to bond as a group then founded Femme Fatale. Femme Fatale is a French expression that seemed to fit the group image. We use our technique as a weapon, our femininity a strength, and our passion as a power.

Dance Mogul: What was the viral moment that let the world know you guys were here?
Femme Fatale: We performed our winning choreography piece from Sweden at Carnival Choreographer’s Ball Los Angeles and the video got 40 Million views. This boosted our visibility and we started getting bookings as a group for Red Bull, Marc Jacobs, Cirque du Soleil and more. After this, we performed a new show at VIBE Dance Competition that also got big visibility worldwide.

Dance Mogul: How important is it for you guys to unite as women to be a force in street dance?
Femme Fatale: Individually we all represent and are masters at our art but we are always stronger together by joining forces. Street Dance is a male dominated scene so women need to unite and represent. As trailblazers in the dance world, it’s important for us to represent, unite and motivate other women that’s why we started our Training Program in 2020.

Dance Mogul: What advice do you guys have for the younger generation of female street dancer that want to become professional?
Femme Fatale: Be yourself. No one can do what you do the way you do it. Train to get better, develop a solid foundation and keep being creative. Stay humble and keep growing. Be professional, be on time, polite, work hard and don’t take things personal. Know your worth and don’t work for free or cheap. Don’t give up after someone tells you NO. Be smart with your finances. Have fun in the process.

Dance Mogul: What is the battle scene like now as opposed to five years ago?
Femme Fatale: The battle scene evolved a lot in quantity and quality. There are a lot of amazing events with more and more people every year. Also, thanks to new technology and social media, people have access to knowledge everywhere in the world. There are also way more women and kids with a high level of talent who are entering battles. It also depends on the country, as some countries have better infrastructure than others to welcome bigger street dance events.

Dance Mogul: How are you guys keeping busy during the coronavirus pandemic?
Femme Fatale: First, we still meet Online to keep our business going. We keep practicing consistently individually and together Online every day. We are continuing our weekly training session Online once a week to engage with dancers from all over the world. We teach private classes Online in different styles. We also have Online classes on the platform Steezy. We are also working on our Merchandise Online, which is available for purchase now.

Dance Mogul: What do you want your legacy to be as a group?
Femme Fatale: We want to leave a mark, and be a legendary group that will still be mentioned in history for years to come, to inspire the next generation. That’s why we created Femme Fatale Training Program, a safe space for all girls and women who want to elevate in street dance and grow with us. We are currently creating a theatre show that we want to tour all over the world. We want to be able to have other women be a part of it in the future, and expand the Femme Fatale Family and Brand.

Dance Mogul: Where do you see the future of dance going?
Femme Fatale: Dance will continue to grow, it’s a worldwide movement. It will be more virtual. The bright side is people can learn to dance everywhere in the world, access knowledge from the OG’s, and from some of their favorite dancers that they never got the chance to talk to before. However, it can take away the live experience of dance and the human connection between artists. We wish for the best of both worlds to unite. We also, look forward to seeing more and more women street dancers take over the world.

Dance Mogul: Is there anyone you would like to thank for helping you guys?
Femme Fatale: We would like to thank Red Bull for working with Femme Fatale, Crazy Legs, Jonzi D with Breakin Convention, The Kinjaz, Nina and Zerjon from Twisted Feet, Little Shao, Kevin Lam Seck, and Qewly.
