Dance Mogul Magazine had the pleasure of sitting down with Corina Best at The Performing Arts Center (PAC) in Van Nuys, California. While on break from her Shway-Style intensive instructor course with PAC’s Artist in Residence and street-dance icon, Shabba-Doo, Corina, shared with us her passion for dance and dance culture. Corina originally from the UK found herself drawn to the street style, waackin’. She wants to help educate dancers from the UK and beyond. Corina is the creator of Spread Love Dance, an organization that aims to raise the bar in street dance knowledge, education, and training for UK dancers/teachers while sharing the culture and social essence of these dance styles and empowering youth with the freedom of self-expression.
Corina’s love for dance lead her to Shabba-Doo, primarily for his extensive dance history and Shway-Style dancing. Before long she became Shabba-Doo’s apprentice, focusing on Shway-Style (Waackin’ Shabba Doo’s Way) culminating in a leap of faith move to Los Angeles, CA for 3 months to train intensively and exclusively with Shabba-Doo, learning the complete repertoire of this form. Corina feels that Shabba-Doo’s knowledge of street dance, film production, and artist development will help hone her skills and subsequently find her artistic voice. We look forward to hearing more from Corina upon her return to the UK and how she is truly living her purpose.
