Press & Media

For publicists, artists, venues, festivals, and universities: who we are, what we cover, how to reach us, and what happens after you do.

Who We Are

Dance Mogul Magazine is a father and son Black owned dance publication. Founded in 2010, we have spent fifteen years documenting dance culture across every style — street, hip-hop, ballet, classical, commercial, competition, and the choreographers, companies, and educators who build it.

Our mission is simple and it governs what we publish: inspiring self-empowerment through dance culture. We cover artists as artists — their training, their lineage, their craft, and their business — not as press cycles. Our archive is permanent, and pieces we published a decade ago are still read today.

What we do not cover

Music, theater, culinary, and general arts programming with no substantive dance component. Product placement. Anything requiring us to run copy we did not write. If you are unsure whether a story fits, ask — a two-line email is faster than a guess.

Our Interview Format — Built for Artists With No Time

The most common obstacle to good artist coverage is scheduling. We removed it. Our standard format is a written interview that requires nothing from your calendar:

1. We send 8–10 substantive questions by email.
2. The artist answers on their own time, in their own words, at any length.
3. We build the full feature — written, edited, designed, images, published. Your team produces nothing.
4. You and the artist review for factual accuracy before it runs.
5. It publishes on dancemogul.com, and we send a formatted copy you are free to host or link from your own site.

No call to schedule. No travel. No deadline pressure on the artist.

A season announcement stops working the day after the performance. An artist feature keeps surfacing in search for years, with your institution attached to it. That is the trade we are offering, and it is why we would rather interview one artist properly than list ten events.

How to Pitch Us

Email info@dancemogul.com with PRESS in the subject line. No form, no portal, no account. Include:

▪  Artist, company, or organization name
▪  What is happening, and why it matters to dancers
▪  Date(s), venue, and city
▪  Dance style or discipline
▪  Official link — event page, artist site, or release
▪  Whether the artist is available for a written interview
▪  High-resolution images with photographer credit and usage rights stated
▪  Any existing video we may embed
▪  Your name, agency, phone, and a verified email

Lead time helps. Four to eight weeks before a date gives us room to do an interview properly. A week out, we can usually only link to your listing.

Images & Rights

We will not publish an image without clear usage rights and a photographer credit. If you cannot confirm both, do not send it — a piece with no photo runs; a piece with an unlicensed photo does not run at all.

Terms — Stated Up Front

Submission does not guarantee publication

We are a publication, not a listings service. We read everything credible that arrives and we publish a fraction of it. A pitch places you on our radar; it does not commit us to coverage, a timeline, or a particular angle.

We do not sell coverage

Editorial coverage cannot be purchased, and we do not accept payment, gifts, or ticket value in exchange for a story or a favorable one. Any sponsored or partnership content, should we ever run it, will be labeled as such and will not be produced by the editorial side.

Editorial control stays with us

We will check facts, quotes, dates, and spellings with you before publication, and we want to get those right. We do not grant copy approval, and we do not run press releases as articles under our byline. The questions are ours; the answers are the artist's; the framing is ours.

Republishing and syndication

You are welcome to link to any piece we publish, and we encourage it. If you would like to host the full text on your own site — an institutional press page, a campus publication, an artist's site — we will send a formatted copy with attribution and a canonical tag pointing back to dancemogul.com. The canonical tag means neither of us is penalized for duplicate content. Please do not republish full text without that package.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, tell us at info@dancemogul.com and we will correct it. We would rather fix an error than defend one.

Response times

We are a small editorial team. If a pitch fits, you will usually hear from us within a week. If you do not hear back, it was not a fit for this cycle — please keep sending. Fit changes.
