Look only at the final 2026 standings and Brotherhood appears to be the clear winner. Look at IDL's official Championship designation and GRV is the Season Champion. Both are correct.

The distinction is not wordplay. It comes straight from how the International Dance League built its first season. The first five Series make up the regular season. Teams collect standings points at each stop, and those points set the regular-season order and Championship seeding. Then all six teams enter a final Championship Series. Under IDL's published rulebook, the team that wins Round 2 of that final event is crowned the 2026 Season Champion, regardless of where it finished in the standings.

The Regular Season Answers One Question

Who performed most consistently across the five Series? In 2026, that answer is Brotherhood.

IDL awards standings points through its competition rounds. During the regular season, Brotherhood collected the maximum 14 points at every stop: New York, Vancouver, Sydney, Seoul and Los Angeles. That produced 70 regular-season points and the top seed entering the Championship. No other team came close to that week-to-week control.

The standings preserve something important: they record the season as a body of work, rather than letting the final night erase everything before it.

The Championship Answers a Different Question

Who won the final title event? In 2026, that answer is GRV.

All six teams qualified for the Championship. In Round 1, No. 1 seed Brotherhood beat Quick Style 7-0, No. 4 seed GRV beat 1MILLION 6-1, and Jam Republic advanced past Royal Family 5-2. Those three winners met in Round 2, where GRV scored 94.00, Brotherhood 93.57 and Jam Republic 90.86.

IDL's rulebook states that the Round 2 winner of the Championship Series is crowned Season Champion regardless of regular-season standings. That sentence is the key to the whole 2026 result.

Why the Numbers Can Look Confusing

IDL adds Championship points to the season standings, too. Brotherhood earned 12 points at the Championship and finished with 82. GRV earned 13 and finished with 37. So the final points table still shows Brotherhood first by a wide margin.

That table does not override the Championship rule. Think of it as two records living side by side: a standings record of cumulative performance, and a title record that names the winner of the Championship event.

There Was Also a Championship Judging Change

IDL's 2026 rulebook describes the Championship as following the same general format and scoring used on tour. After the event, however, IDL's official recap said the Championship “introduced an updated judging format, removing the fan vote and adding an additional judge to the panel to place greater emphasis on expert evaluation.” The league named a seven-judge Pro panel: LaTasha Barnes, Shaun Evaristo, Cheyenne Kibblewhite, Handy Yacinthe, Comfort Fedoke, Brandi Chun and Stephen Grey.

The timing is telling. At the Los Angeles Series one night earlier, IDL reported a 3-3 judges' split between GRV and 1MILLION that was decided by the fan vote. An odd-numbered panel removes that possibility. The public results page still displays fan-vote percentages for Championship Round 1 matchups, so the most careful reading is that the decisive Round 2 evaluation changed while Round 1 retained fan-vote data. DMM is documenting that nuance rather than pretending the published materials are perfectly uniform.

Why This Structure Is Interesting for Dance

Most dance competitions are built around a single weekend. IDL is trying to create memory across time, and that changes what a result can mean. Brotherhood's five wins show repeatable excellence. GRV's Championship shows peak performance under final-event pressure. A league can reward both without forcing one story to cancel the other.

It also changes how audiences talk about dancers. Instead of meeting a team once and moving on, viewers can compare versions of that team across cities. A loss becomes context for the next event. A roster decision becomes part of a season. Judges become part of an ongoing scoring system. Rivalries have time to develop — and Brotherhood versus GRV, reported first and second at IDL's 2025 launch event and then second and first at the 2026 Championship, is already one.
