Capjay: The Long Beach Freestyler Who Won Over Judges and a Crowd in One Week
Jaden “Capjay” Mosby made his first TV dance appearance at three and taught himself to freestyle. In April 2025, within a single week, he won a world title from judges in Bucharest and a Red Bull crowd in Tampa. Now Red Bull has invited him to Zürich as a World Final wildcard, and he is chasing a first for American dance.

Jaden “Capjay” Mosby is a hip-hop freestyle dancer from Long Beach, California. He first danced on television at three, on the children’s show Hip Hop Harry, then taught himself to freestyle. In April 2025 he won the WDSF World Championship in Youth Hip-Hop Freestyle 1 vs 1 in Bucharest. Within a week he also won Red Bull Dance Your Style’s South Qualifier in Tampa, in his first appearance at the event. Red Bull has named him one of eight invited wildcards for the 2026 World Final at Hallenstadion Zürich on October 24. He also produces music as Capbeats.
FILE / AT A GLANCE
Street dance runs on two scoring systems that rarely meet. In one, a panel of trained adjudicators watches a round and scores it against criteria. In the other, there are no judges at all. A room full of people, most of whom have never studied the form, lifts a card or lights a wristband and decides. Plenty of dancers are built for one system or the other. Very few get to prove they can win both, and almost none do it in the same week.
In April 2025, Capjay did. He won a world championship from the judges of the World DanceSport Federation in Bucharest. Then, within a week, he was in Florida winning over a crowd of more than 3,000 at a Red Bull Dance Your Style qualifier in Tampa, in his first appearance at the event.
This profile makes two arguments. The first is that the double matters more than either title on its own. Winning a judge proves you can do the work, and winning a crowd proves people want to watch it. Capjay has receipts for both. The second matters more to Dance Mogul Magazine. Red Bull has invited him to Zürich as a wildcard, and it frames his run as a chance to become the first world champion from the United States. If that happens, the record should show how he got there: a kid in a Long Beach living room, his mother’s records, and a self-taught education nobody handed him.
Long Beach, a Kids’ Show and His Mother’s Records
Most dancers can name the class where it started. Capjay can name a television show. Red Bull’s biography says he made his dance debut at three on Hip Hop Harry, the children’s series built around a giant dancing bear and a cast of kids. Whatever a three-year-old understands about being on camera, it stuck.
The rest of his early training happened at home. Red Bull describes him working on his moves in the living room to the records his mother kept in rotation. That detail is worth slowing down on. Before he had a teacher, a crew or a battle, he had a household soundtrack. In a format where nobody knows the next song, a dancer raised on someone else’s record collection has spent years reacting to music he did not choose.
What the record does not yet show is who else shaped him in Long Beach. The sources we reviewed do not name the sessions, studios, crews or mentors behind his training. This series makes a point of naming teachers, so when those names become public, this section gets updated.
Basketball, Breaking and a Battle in Las Vegas
Dance was not his first plan. According to Red Bull, his first love was basketball. He came up as a self-taught hip-hop freestyler, starting in breaking and branching into other street styles as a teenager.
Then came the night that changed the plan. Red Bull says he entered a battle in Las Vegas and was hooked on the spot by the adrenaline, the freedom and the energy of competing. His basketball dreams, in Red Bull’s telling, ended there. The sources do not name the event or the year, so we will not.
What the record does show is what he built afterward. Red Bull lists the vocabulary he now carries into a round: a range of hip-hop styles, popping, intricate footwork and power moves, stitched together with what it calls clever wordplay. Wordplay is the telling one. It means hitting the lyric, not just the beat, and acting out a line as it lands. That is a musician’s instinct, and he turned out to have one.
A self-professed “dance addict.” — Red Bull’s description of Capjay, World Final wildcard announcement (October 2026)
Two Ways to Win a Battle
The World DanceSport Federation runs world championships in hip-hop, including 1 vs 1 freestyle battles split by age group. Rounds are scored by a panel of adjudicators. Its published results for Bucharest 2025 show a pre-selection score for every dancer, then a final ranking table with points. To win that room, a dancer has to convince trained eyes, round after round, that the technique and musicality are there.
Red Bull Dance Your Style removes the judges. Two dancers take turns to tracks they have not heard in advance, and the audience votes after each battle. At the 2026 World Final, Red Bull says YouTube viewers can vote for the first time, with their votes factored into the result. To win that room, a dancer has to make the round readable to people who may not know a single step by name. Our Dance Knowledge Hub explains more of the forms these dancers draw on.
Bucharest: A World Championship, Spelled Out
Red Bull’s biography says that in 2025 he won the WDSF World Championship hip-hop title. The federation’s own records give the details. The event was the WDSF World Championship Hip-Hop Freestyle 1 vs 1 in the youth age category, held in Bucharest, Romania, on April 12 and 13, 2025.
He led from the start. The federation’s pre-selection report ranks him first, with a score of 77.9. Its final ranking puts him first again:
| Place | Dancer | Country | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Capjay Mosby | USA | 110 |
| 2 | Samo Zazo | Slovakia | 105 |
| 3 | Sara Zoppi | Italy | 99 |
| 4 | Simal Ecrin İpekli | Türkiye | 94 |
Precision matters here, so we will be precise. This is a world title in the youth division of the federation’s hip-hop freestyle battle, not its adult division. That does not shrink it. Youth is the category a dancer his age competes in, and he beat the best of it from across the federation’s member countries. It does change how it should be written. Wherever this title appears, Dance Mogul Magazine will name the division.
Tampa, April 19, 2025: A Debut That Ended in a Win
Within a week of Bucharest he was in Florida. The Red Bull Dance Your Style South Qualifier took place on April 19, 2025, at Armature Works in Tampa. Red Bull reported more than 3,000 people inside and about 2,000 more watching a live feed outside. It was his first time competing at Red Bull Dance Your Style. He won it, beating Tampa’s own T-Wave in the final, at 18.
Afterward he told Red Bull that he had not known what to expect and that the result went beyond anything he had imagined. He also said he was looking forward to getting back to California, where his family would be able to watch him at the National Final. Asked about the night itself, he described a room full of nerves, his own included, and then said the thing that matters in this format:
“The crowd embraced my style.” — Capjay, to Red Bull after the South Qualifier in Tampa (July 2025)
That sentence is the whole crowd-voted system in five words. It is also why Tampa matters twice in this story. It is where he won his first Red Bull room, and seventeen months later it is where the 2026 U.S. title was decided, in a National Final he did not need to enter.
San Francisco, 2025: In the National Field
The Tampa win sent him to the 2025 USA National Final on August 23, 2025, in San Francisco, one of sixteen dancers in the field. In its preview, Red Bull introduced him as a “viral powerhouse” among the rising stars and seasoned battlers that night.
Here is the honest part, and Dance Mogul Magazine would rather print it than pad a page: the sources we reviewed do not say how far he went. Red Bull’s coverage confirms SonLam defended his national title by beating Sean Lew in the final, and DMM’s own reporting on that night documents battles involving Noahlot, Lily Frias and Marlee Hightower. Capjay’s rounds are not described in anything we could verify, so we will not invent a result for him. If footage or an official bracket surfaces, this section gets updated and the change stays visible.
Capbeats, Battles and a Keychain of Tour Souvenirs
Away from the floor, Red Bull says he produces music under the name Capbeats. For a freestyle dancer that is not a side hobby. A producer thinks in bars, drops and breaks, and he knows where the space in a track is before it arrives. It is reasonable to read his wordplay and musical hits as two sides of the same ear. That is our analysis, not his description, and we will happily print his own account when he gives one.
Red Bull also says that since his 2025 run he has hosted his own battles, taught workshops and judged around the world. That last point is easy to skip past. At 19 he sits on the panel side of the room as well as the competitor side, which means he has now seen battles through the judges’ eyes and the crowd’s. The sources we reviewed do not list the specific events, so we have left them out until we can name them properly.
Then there are the details that make a dancer recognizable across a venue. Red Bull says he is known on the circuit for a rotating collection of thrifted hats and a jangling keychain built from souvenirs of the places he has toured. A record of travel he carries with him.
Dance Mogul Magazine has not yet verified a public, embeddable recording of a Capjay battle from Bucharest, Tampa or San Francisco. We only embed footage we can confirm and credit, so this space stays empty for now.
The two photographs in this profile come from that Tampa night and are credited as published by the Red Bull Content Pool: Chelsea Adams for the round at the top of the page, Yvonne Gougelet for the trophy portrait. Red Bull’s wildcard announcement uses a separate portrait credited to Marina Oya, which DMM has not used.
The Invitation: Wildcard Three of Eight
Capjay was not in the field at the 2026 USA National Final in Tampa on September 19. He did not need to be. Red Bull’s wildcard announcement, updated October 2, 2026, names him as one of eight invited dancers in the World Final Top 16. The others are Candyman, Stalamuerte, Locker Zee, Limpopo Boy, Xelyna, SonYa and Chaa. The remaining eight Top 16 places go to the best dancers from two Pre-Finals in Zürich the week before the final.
The invitation puts him in a different position from the American who did go through Tampa. JREAMZ won the 2026 U.S. title there, which takes her to World Final week, but she is not a wildcard. Her place in the Top 16 depends on the Pre-Finals. Two Americans are headed to Zürich by two different routes, and Dance Mogul Magazine is keeping those routes separate in all of our coverage.
Red Bull describes Capjay’s goal plainly: to become the first Red Bull Dance Your Style World Champion from the USA. The World Final has been held in Paris, Johannesburg, Frankfurt, Mumbai and Los Angeles, and Red Bull’s own framing indicates no American has won it. The defending champion is Jaïra Joy, who won in Los Angeles in 2025. By the same account, a title for JREAMZ would be the same first.
The World Final show starts at 8pm in Zürich on Saturday, October 24, which is 11am in Long Beach. It streams on Red Bull TV, TikTok and YouTube, and this year YouTube votes count. For the first time, people back home can do more than watch. The full World Field, the format and the watch times are in our Red Bull Dance Your Style Newsroom.
The Record, and What It Still Leaves Out
April 2025 — WDSF World Champion, Youth Hip-Hop Freestyle 1 vs 1. Bucharest, Romania. First in pre-selection and first in the final ranking.
April 19, 2025 — Winner, Red Bull Dance Your Style South Qualifier. Armature Works, Tampa. His Red Bull debut.
August 23, 2025 — USA National Final, Red Bull Dance Your Style. San Francisco.
2026 — Invited wildcard, Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final. Hallenstadion Zürich, October 24.
That list is short for a dancer Red Bull calls a viral name, and it is short on purpose. Battle results live on federation databases, brand recaps and social posts, and much of a young dancer’s record lives in rounds that were filmed on phones and never captioned. Dance Mogul Magazine prints only what it can trace to a source it has actually read. The hosting, teaching and judging Red Bull mentions are real parts of his career, and they belong on this list as soon as they can be named and dated.
That is the same discipline we apply to the history behind the form. Hip-hop freestyle, popping and breaking were built by named people in named places, and our Legacy archive exists so those names travel with the dance. The record for a 19-year-old should start just as carefully.
Where Capjay Is Now
As of early October 2026, Red Bull lists Capjay among the eight invited wildcards for the World Final Top 16 at Hallenstadion Zürich on October 24.
Beyond that, we are not going to invent a schedule for him. The record says he is a world champion in his division, a Red Bull qualifier winner and a producer who reads music for a living. On October 24, a crowd in Zürich and voters on YouTube will decide what comes next. Dance Mogul Magazine will report it, and then keep following what he builds after the vote, in our After-File.

What Capjay Represents to Young, Up-and-Coming Dancers
The assumption he broke is that you have to pick a lane: a technical competitor for the judges or a crowd-pleaser for the vote. He won both inside a week. Read as a method, his path shows five stages any young dancer can find themselves on.
Before any class, he had his mother’s records. Train to music you did not pick. Freestyle is mostly listening.
Self-taught is not the same as untested. Las Vegas was where he found out what his practice was worth. Find your first real battle.
A judged room and a voted room reward different things. Know which one you are walking into, and be ready to win both.
Producing music as Capbeats sharpens the ear he dances with. Pick a craft that makes your dancing better, not one that competes with it.
At 19 he is already hosting battles, teaching and judging. You do not need to be finished to start building the scene. If you are planning that next step, our workbooks were made for it.
Why Capjay Matters to Dance Mogul Magazine
Dance Mogul Magazine has published for over fifteen years on a single conviction: dance is the foundation, not the ceiling. Capjay is that conviction at 19. A kids’ show at three, a living room, a Las Vegas battle, then a world title, a Red Bull win and a seat in Zürich. On the side, he is already producing music, hosting events and teaching others.
The freestyle hip-hop he competes in was built in Black and Latino communities, and the people who built it are too often left out of the story told about it. As a father and son Black owned dance publication, we think the record of a rising dancer should be kept as carefully as the record of a legend: dated, sourced and honest about its gaps. If he becomes the first American world champion on October 24, there will be plenty of headlines. This profile is here so the path that led to them is written down too.
