The complete set of dance styles and songs for Dancing with the Stars Season 35's Dedication Night is now confirmed in ABC/Disney Television Press's October 14 episode release. In an exclusive published October 14 at 6:36 p.m. ET, People identified the ten surviving celebrity-professional partnerships, their planned music and dance styles, and nine of the ten dedications. The October 15 official-podcast reveal subsequently confirmed that Tatyana Ali will honor James Avery. Read DMM’s full Ali/Avery feature → Read the source report →
The ten original October 14 couple assignments (with the October 17 Dewan/Bersten substitution noted below) and newly announced ensemble performances provide a new chapter in the season's conversation about dance history and performance craft. After Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa revisited Save the Last Dance on October 13, their next performance will pay tribute to Stiles' late 10 Things I Hate About You co-star Heath Ledger. The song, Frankie Valli's “Can't Take My Eyes Off You,” is closely associated with Ledger's character in the 1999 film. DMM treated the song choice and dedication as confirmed by the People report before the broadcast; the routine aired October 20 and scored 36 of 40.
Official-source update, October 14: ABC/Disney Television Press has now published its own Dedication Night episode release, confirming all ten original pre-broadcast song/style assignments and four additional musical numbers. The October 17 Bersten substitution supersedes the original Dewan/Chmerkovskiy partner listing for this episode. This October 14 release was a pre-broadcast announcement, not a results source. For the completed October 20 performances and scores, see the results table above. No October 20 performance video is embedded here, and the release did not identify individual ensemble choreography credits.
October 15 pre-broadcast confirmation: Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik were announced to honor James Avery in their October 20 Viennese waltz to Nancy Wilson. Ali revealed the honoree through the official DWTS podcast and a public tribute. Read the complete DMM feature → October 19 rehearsal update: an official DWTS video previewed Alfonso Ribeiro joining Ali and Ravnik and Ali recording vocals. This was the pre-broadcast announcement; Ali and Ravnik subsequently scored 32/40 on October 20 (see results table).
Archived Preview · October 19 Original Interview
Before the broadcast, Laura Olson was reported as planning to join Jackson Olson and Emma Slater for a brief portion of their October 20 quickstep to Nat King Cole's “L-O-V-E.” Laura told CT Insider that she had rehearsed for three days by October 18 and had no formal dance experience before this invitation. ABC's October 14 press release confirmed the dedication, song and dance style, but did not announce Laura's on-floor role. At the time of the October 19 interview, her exact choreography, placement and duration had not been released. This paragraph preserves that pre-broadcast reporting; Jackson Olson and Emma Slater subsequently scored 32/40 on October 20. DMM choreography report → · Original Laura Olson interview →

An October 19 rehearsal preview announced that Alfonso Ribeiro would join Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik for their James Avery tribute on October 20. The Viennese waltz, “Unchained Melody,” dedication to Dewan's mother Nancy, and ten-celebrity field remained unchanged. Dewan and Bersten scored 37/40. ABC's October 14 preview predated the partner change. Read DMM's verified breaking report → BBC Studios statement →

DMM Dance Lens · What the Scores Showed
Before the broadcast, DMM asked what each style would test. Contemporary produced the top score: three of the four contemporary routines scored 36 or higher, led by Glenn’s 38, while Cameron’s scored 32. The three Viennese waltzes split almost as sharply, from Dewan’s 37 to 32 for both Ali and Wood, a reminder that rotation, frame and continuous travel are scored as technique, not mood. These observations compare published scores; they are not a ruling on any individual performance.

Dedication Night's Four Additional Showcases: Two Pro-and-Troupe Routines
The ten scored celebrity-couple assignments are not the entire evening's dance program. ABC's official episode release identifies four further musical numbers. Two are expressly described as pro and troupe routines; the other two are featured dances for which the performers have not been named.
| Number | Music | ABC description |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | “Fever Dream” — Alex Warren | Pro / troupe routine |
| 2 | “Stay (If You Wanna Dance)” — Myles Smith | Pro / troupe routine |
| 3 | “CATastrophe” — Hilary Duff, from The Cat in the Hat | Additional featured dance; performers not named |
| 4 | “Here You Come Again” — Dolly Parton and Willa Amai | Dedication performance honoring Dolly Parton; performers not named |
DMM Dance Lens (pre-broadcast outlook): The additional pro/troupe numbers create a separate artistic record within the broadcast: ensemble formation, transitions, musical phrasing, and the labor of dancers whose contributions do not appear on the celebrity leaderboard. DMM will track the named performers and choreographers when authoritative credits become available; the release does not identify them. No score or elimination outcome is implied by this announcement.

Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa: A Second Film-to-Dance Moment
Pre-broadcast analysis preserved as an October 19 archival snapshot. Future-tense wording below reflects what was known before the episode, not the current status. For results, see Scores and Results.
On October 13, Stiles and Sosa used jazz to revisit Save the Last Dance, a film that helped shape early-2000s popular ideas about ballet, hip-hop and screen choreography. Their 33/40 placed them among the night's stronger performers. One week later, their planned contemporary routine to “Can't Take My Eyes Off You” will honor Heath Ledger, Stiles' co-star in 10 Things I Hate About You (1999).
Contemporary gives Sosa a different palette from last week's film-homage jazz. Where a jazz routine can emphasize accents, stylized gestures and recognizable pop-cultural references, contemporary may use changes in level, weight sharing, suspended movement and unbroken phrasing to sustain an emotional narrative. The question for DMM is not whether a tribute evokes recognition, but how the partners make the relationship readable through movement. The choreography, guest participation and judges' reactions remain unknown until the broadcast.
The pairing also invites careful historical language. Stiles and Ledger were co-stars; DMM is not inferring the private nature of their relationship or suggesting the dedication speaks for Ledger's family. For the separate October 13 dance-history analysis, read Julia Stiles, Sean Patrick Thomas and Save the Last Dance on DWTS.
DMM Dance Lens: What Each Style Will Test
Pre-broadcast analysis preserved as an October 19 archival snapshot. Future-tense wording below reflects what was known before the episode, not the current status. For results, see Scores and Results.
Original DMM Analysis · Not a Score Prediction
The mix is striking: four contemporary routines (Cameron, Frech, Glenn and Stiles), three Viennese waltzes (Ali, Dewan and Wood), plus a foxtrot, quickstep and paso doble. The evening could show how different movement systems carry a personal story. The technical standard remains relevant even when the subject is intimate.
Contemporary: Four Different Emotional Subjects
Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach's contemporary to Mon Rovia's “Bloodline” is dedicated to his mother, Bahar. Their Week 5 salsa tied for first at 36/40; the transition to contemporary may reveal new choices about weight sharing, floor pathways and adaptive partnering. DMM will evaluate the choreography on its own terms rather than assume a particular prosthetic configuration or movement limitation. Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov will honor Glenn's sister Brooke to Sia's “Breathe Me,” a choice that moves from their Week 5 samba's rhythmic bounce to sustained expression. Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess's “Supermarket Flowers” honors mothers everywhere. Stiles and Sosa complete the contemporary group with the Ledger tribute.
Viennese Waltz: Connection Without Losing Travel
Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy, Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold, and Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik all have Viennese waltzes. The dance asks for continuous rotation, a coherent frame and a three-beat flow that does not disappear when the performers tell a personal story. Dewan enters from a joint Week 5 lead at 36/40 and will honor her mother Nancy to “Unchained Melody.” Wood, whose samba scored 25/40, has a different opportunity: to show whether sustained ballroom hold helps him find more consistent timing. Ali will honor James Avery, giving Ravnik and Ali a chance to express a relationship from her television career through the continuous motion and partnership of Viennese waltz.
Foxtrot, Quickstep and Paso Doble: Three Contrasts
Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson will foxtrot to John Mayer's “Stop This Train” for Shum's wife, Shelby. A foxtrot rewards unhurried travel, controlled transitions and quiet partnership; the question is whether Shum's commercial-dance background transfers to a different kind of ease. Jackson Olson and Emma Slater's quickstep to Nat King Cole's “L-O-V-E” for his mother Laura calls for buoyancy and precise footwork without sacrificing the dedication's warmth. Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas will honor Ireland with a paso doble to Dropkick Murphys' “I'm Shipping Up to Boston.” Paso doble requires assertive line and directional commitment. Because Higgins has reported neck discomfort, DMM will avoid medical speculation and judge the work visible on the floor rather than presume a diagnosis or withdrawal.
Kym Johnson Returns: How Will the Dances Be Judged?
Two-time Mirrorball champion Kym Johnson-Herjavec joined the judging panel on October 20, following an on-air announcement by host Alfonso Ribeiro and October 14 reporting. Johnson's experience as a professional partner creates a potentially revealing comparison with Super Bowl Night guest judge Joe Buck. The scoring results are summarized below; this article does not attribute unverified technical comments to her. Her appearance does not itself establish a scoring-rule change.
Result, October 20: Johnson-Herjavec scored every couple between 8 and 10 and awarded two of the night’s four 10s, to Ezra Frech and Amber Glenn.
