Guillermo Rodriguez and Witney Carson were eliminated from Dancing with the Stars on October 13, the season’s first Super Bowl Night. Their salsa to Bad Bunny’s “Tití Me Preguntó” earned 22 of a possible 40 points, the lowest judges’ total of the night, and the combined judges’ scores and viewer votes ended a run that audiences had kept alive through four straight weeks at or near the bottom of the leaderboard.

At the top, Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy (paso doble, “Bad Romance”) and Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach (salsa, “Hot in Herre”) tied at 36/40. Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov followed at 34/40. Ten couples advance to Dedication Night.

Who Went Home on DWTS on October 13?

Rodriguez and Carson received a 6 from Carrie Ann Inaba, a 5 from Derek Hough, a 6 from guest judge Joe Buck and a 5 from Bruno Tonioli. On a proportional three-judge scale, that is approximately 16.5 out of 30, his strongest result of the season after 10, 12, 15 and 13. The judges responded warmly: Hough joked about Rodriguez headlining a future halftime show, and Inaba, who a week earlier had said he was dimming his light, told him he had brought the joy back.

Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess were the other couple left in the final group. Their jazz scored 30/40, so the judges’ numbers alone did not decide the result. As in every week this season, ABC has not released viewer-vote totals, and DMM does not estimate them.

In his farewell, Rodriguez thanked Carson for teaching him to dance. Carson, who is pregnant with her third child and competed through the season, said he had looked after her throughout and called the experience empowering.

Rodriguez’s arc is the season’s clearest case of two measures running in parallel. The judges recorded uneven but ultimately improved results after his 10/30 opening cha-cha; audience support also kept the partnership in the competition. His exit came on the night his dancing scored best, which says more about the rising level around him than about a step backward. For Carson, the work was translating salsa timing and partnering into a body with no dance background, week after week, while pregnant.

DWTS Super Bowl Night Scores: All 11 Couples

The Dances That Moved the Leaderboard

Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy, 36/40. The paso doble is a dance of shape and attack: a held, lifted chest, sharp changes of direction and a matador-and-cape relationship between partners. It suits a performer with Dewan’s commercial-dance training, and Chmerkovskiy had said ahead of the show that he planned to bring in additional dancers. Her 36 continues a climb of 19, 21, 21 and 24 out of 30 in the first four weeks.

Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach, 36/40. Frech has spoken this month about the trial and error of choosing a walking prosthesis or a running blade for each routine. Salsa asks for quick weight changes and constant partner connection, so the tie for first is the clearest sign yet that Karagach’s adaptive choreography is building real Latin technique rather than working around it.

Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov, 34/40. The Olympic skater scored 8, 9, 9 and 8. Judges singled out a flashy scarf section set against traditional samba rolls. Samba was new territory for Glenn, and its bounce action is about as far from skating glide as ballroom gets.

Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa, 33/40. Their jazz to “Jenny from the Block” was a direct callback to Save the Last Dance, with a solo passage that let Stiles move between hip-hop and ballet. Tonioli called it her best dance so far, and Hough hugged her afterward. Stiles told reporters she had wanted to do it for 25 years. Earlier this month she said she had overstated her film-era dance training; this routine is what she can do now, live and unedited.

Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas, 33/40. Higgins danced through a neck injury from rehearsals; no diagnosis has been released. Buck gave her a 9 and the three regular judges each gave 8s; Inaba and Hough asked for more punctuation and attack as she moves into Latin styles.

Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson, 33/40. Their samba to Usher’s “Yeah!” tied Higgins and Stiles for fourth.

Jackson Olson and Emma Slater, 31/40. Hough called the salsa Olson’s best dance of the competition. Olson had competed at the Savannah Bananas’ October 10 Banana Bowl, three days before the October 13 ballroom performance (Disney+ schedule).

Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess, 30/40. TheWrap described their jazz as Dirty Dancing-inspired, and it featured a prominent overhead lift. Hough praised his improvement and Inaba his lifts; Inaba and Buck gave 8s, Hough and Tonioli 7s. They still landed in the final group.

Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik, 29/40, for a salsa to Kendrick Lamar’s “squabble up.” Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold, 25/40: the judges called his energy a 10 but said timing and weight transfer, the core of samba, need significant work.

Joe Buck, the NFL Alumni and a 40-Point Night

ESPN’s Joe Buck was the season’s first guest judge. He made no claim to technical expertise, which is a useful reminder that a guest score measures how a dance reads to an informed viewer, not how it holds up to a ballroom adjudicator. The fourth paddle also changes the arithmetic: compare this week’s numbers as percentages, not raw totals.

Four former DWTS contestants from the NFL returned for the theme: champions Emmitt Smith (Season 3) and Donald Driver (Season 14), plus DeMarcus Ware and Danny Amendola. Years after their own seasons, their appearance doubled as a test of what ballroom training leaves in an athlete’s body.

What’s Next: Dedication Night, October 20

Dedication Night airs Tuesday, October 20, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+, with next-day streaming on Hulu. Song and dance assignments have not been announced.
